ITA Airways cabin bag size
Everything you can bring on board ITA Airways — sizes, weight and cost.
ITA Airways cabin baggage explained
ITA Airways gives Economy passengers an unusually large personal item at 45 × 36 × 20 cm plus a 55 × 35 × 25 cm cabin bag, but the cabin bag is dropped on the cheapest Light fare and its 35 cm width is narrower than many cases.
What your fare changes
The 45 × 36 × 20 cm personal item is included on all fares. Economy fares above Light add the 55 × 35 × 25 cm cabin bag up to 8 kg. Light is a hand-baggage-limited fare, so check whether your ticket includes the overhead cabin bag before you pack for it.
What to check before you fly
The 35 cm width is the common mismatch — many cabin cases are built around 40 cm and will not fit ITA’s narrower box. The Light fare excludes the cabin bag, and the 8 kg weight applies. Measure with wheels and handles included.
Full baggage allowance
| Allowance | Max size | Weight | Fare | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Personal item / under-seat | 45 × 36 × 20 cm 17.7 × 14.2 × 7.9 in | — | All fares | Free |
Cabin bag / carry-on | 55 × 35 × 25 cm 21.7 × 13.8 × 9.8 in | 8 kg | Economy (not Light) | Free |
Worked bag-size example
Take a narrow-width cabin case measuring 54 × 34 × 24 cm and weighing 7.5 kg. Compare it with the cabin-bag limit of 55 × 35 × 25 cm and 8 kg.
The smallest dimensional margin is 1 cm, so the bag is within the size limit. Its weight margin is 0.5 kg.
We compare the three outside edges after orientation, including protruding parts. A result with less than 0.5 cm of clearance is marked tight because measuring and packing can change the real size.
ITA Airways baggage FAQ
What size cabin bag can I take on ITA Airways?+
ITA Airways's cabin bag limit is 55 × 35 × 25 cm (21.7 × 13.8 × 9.8 in), up to 8 kg. Measure your bag including wheels and handles.
Does ITA Airways include a free personal item?+
Yes — ITA Airways lets you bring a personal item up to 45 × 36 × 20 cm that must fit under the seat in front of you at no extra cost.
How do I check if my bag fits ITA Airways?+
Measure height, width and depth in cm or inches and enter them into the checker — you'll see instantly whether your bag fits ITA Airways for free, is tight, or is over the limit, with the exact margin.
Does ITA Airways’ Light fare include a cabin bag?+
No. Light includes only the 45 × 36 × 20 cm personal item. The 55 × 35 × 25 cm, 8 kg cabin bag comes with higher Economy fares.
Why might my cabin case not fit ITA Airways?+
ITA’s cabin bag is 35 cm wide, narrower than the 40 cm many cases use, so a standard European case can fail on width even if height and depth are fine.
