Lufthansa cabin bag size
Everything you can bring on board Lufthansa — sizes, weight and cost.
Lufthansa cabin baggage explained
Lufthansa now treats short- and medium-haul Economy Basic differently from the other economy products. Basic includes only a personal item; Economy Light, Comfort, Comfort Green and Flex add the regular 8 kg cabin bag.
What your fare changes
The personal item is 40 × 30 × 15 cm. The standard carry-on is 55 × 40 × 23 cm and up to 8 kg. On long-haul Economy, the standard carry-on remains part of the allowance, while higher cabins can receive a second piece.
What to check before you fly
Do not assume that “Basic” and “Light” mean the same thing: on Lufthansa short- and medium-haul routes, Basic is the personal-item-only fare. Aircraft and national safety restrictions can also reduce what is accepted in the cabin.

Worked bag-size example
Take a hard-shell cabin case measuring 55 × 40 × 23 cm and weighing 7.4 kg. Compare it with the cabin-bag limit of 55 × 40 × 23 cm and 8 kg.
The smallest dimensional margin is 0 cm, so the bag is exactly on or very close to the size limit. Its weight margin is 0.6 kg.
We compare the three outside edges after orientation, including protruding parts. A result with less than 0.5 cm of clearance is marked tight because measuring and packing can change the real size.
