KLM cabin baggage explained

KLM Economy Basic includes the small under-seat bag, while Light, Standard and Flex include both the small bag and an overhead cabin bag. Where both pieces are included, KLM applies one combined weight allowance rather than a separate allowance to each bag.

What your fare changes

Basic permits one 40 × 30 × 15 cm small bag and offers the 55 × 35 × 25 cm hand-baggage piece as an option. Light, Standard and Flex include both. Their combined Economy weight must remain within 12 kg.

What to check before you fly

The narrow 35 cm side is the common mismatch for cabin cases designed around a 40 cm width. Count handles and wheels. When travelling with two bags, weigh them together because the 12 kg Economy limit covers the pair.

Worked bag-size example

Take a narrow cabin suitcase measuring 54 × 34 × 24 cm and weighing 10.5 kg. Compare it with the cabin-bag limit of 55 × 35 × 25 cm and 12 kg.

Side-by-side calculation
55 − 54 = 1 cm · 35 − 34 = 1 cm · 25 − 24 = 1 cm

The smallest dimensional margin is 1 cm, so the bag is within the size limit. Its weight margin is 1.5 kg.

We compare the three outside edges after orientation, including protruding parts. A result with less than 0.5 cm of clearance is marked tight because measuring and packing can change the real size.
